Follow the Dragons
Mirror gallery, is on the right inside the Arts University Plymouth (AUP.) Walk through the automatic doors, straight ahead and down the stairs (or take the lift you use a wheelchair or struggle with stairs - Boxer's friend Rocky can tell you more about this!)
The reception area of AUP is normally quite quiet, so Boxer is not too overwhelmed here. However, he might feel a little anxious if there are a lot of students around or if there are a lot of people queing to go inside Plymouth Arts Cinema, which is right next to MIRROR gallery.
If there are a lot of people outside the cinema, find a quiet spot for Boxer to relax for 3 minutes. There is a comfortable sofa area next to the reception, or feel free to pop back outside.
Once you are ready, lets go inside MIRROR gallery.
The New Contemporaries exhibition in MIRROR gallery is quite noisy, so if you have headphones or ear defenders Boxer recommends you put them on in this gallery!
Take your time to have a look at the exhibit!
There is a sound piece to the left as soon as you enter the gallery. ("Amir" by Millie Shafiee.) There is also a video exhibit that plays in the gallery ("I love you, life. I hope it's great again" by Yang Zou)
The two videos playing at the same time in a small space can be quite overstimulating for Boxer and make it difficult for him to focus on the other pieces in the exhibition.
The space also has an echo, which can also be quite distracting, especially with the two sound exhibits playing at the same time! Boxer's ear defenders will help to block out the sound and make it easier for him to focus.
This is quite an overstimulating exhibit, so once you are ready, leave MIRROR gallery and have a seat in the sofa area outside of reception for 3 minutes to allow Boxer some time to decompress. There are also toilets near the canteen area that Boxer might use to hide away from noise.
When you are ready, let's head on over to Levinsky Gallery! Leave Arts University Plymouth through the same entrance you came through.
